Solar Panel Calculator

Start with your daily electricity use. Find a starting solar array size and panel count for your home.

Use your average daily electricity consumption to estimate a starting solar array size. The calculator rounds panel quantity up to whole panels and shows the resulting installed DC capacity and estimated daily generation.

Formula and assumptions: required array kW = daily kWh ÷ (peak sun hours × performance fraction). Panel count = round up(required kW × 1,000 ÷ panel watts). Estimated generation = installed rounded kW × peak sun hours × performance fraction. The default 4.5 peak sun hours is illustrative; use location- and design-specific information for a real assessment.

Household example: at 10kWh/day, 4.5 peak sun hours, and an 80% performance factor, the energy model needs about 2.778kW. Using 550W panels rounds up to six panels, or 3.3kWp DC. The same assumptions give 11.88kWh/day of estimated generation from that rounded array.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are peak sun hours the same as daylight hours?

No. Peak sun hours describe daily solar energy as equivalent hours at standard peak irradiance. They are not a promise of constant full output across daylight hours.
No. The result is an energy estimate; location, season, weather, shading, orientation, equipment limits, storage and operating conditions need separate assessment.

Estimate the solar array and panel count needed to cover an average day of electricity use.

Consumption and solar assumptions
4.5 is illustrative, not a verified value for every Philippine location.
Your estimate
Required array (kW) = daily kWh ÷ (peak sun hours × performance fraction). Panel count is rounded up. Generation uses the rounded installed array. Actual output varies with location, season, weather, shading, orientation, and equipment; this does not guarantee off-grid or nighttime supply.
